Chicago O'Hare Airport Death: Woman Found Trapped in Conveyor Belt - Newsweek

Nov 02, 2024

A woman was found dead on Thursday morning at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport after getting stuck in a conveyer belt.

The woman was found unresponsive at around 2:27 a.m. and pronounced dead on the scene, Chicago Police Department told Newsweek. Detectives are conducting an investigation into the woman's death pending autopsy results. Her identity will be revealed by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office when they're able to do so.

The woman was found trapped in a conveyor belt, the Chicago Fire Department told CBS News. It's unclear if the woman works at the airport or was a traveler. However, the Chicago Fire Department told WGN that the woman was found in an area of baggage claim that is not accessible to the public and that they believe it was an industrial accident.

In March, Alyssa Drinkard, a 21-year-old line worker in Georgia, died after she got caught in a chain that moves a conveyer belt at a Club Car plant. A witness said Drinkard dropped one of her AirPods and was reaching for it when she got caught, according to NBC News. A fellow coworker witnessed it but said the way she was pinned made it impossible to free her until maintenance shut the machine down and it was taken apart.

Emergency personnel performed life saving measures on her before taking her to the hospital but she later died.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
